Daily Affirmation: 02.09.2023
Today is my 100th day of chemo.
No, I do not want to be here in the hospital. I do not want to have this IV pumping things into my arm. I do not want the pain, the night sweats, the constant testing, or anything else that goes with it. Chemotherapy is difficult.
Being in the hospital means lying here listening to all the sounds that an oncology ward creates. Alarms going off. Wheel chairs and gurneys take people back and forth to different tests and treatments. Nurses and techs calling up and down the corridor. Trying to sleep is difficult.
And for some, the news coming from the doctor is not what we want to hear. A man with lung cancer was told that his most recent tests showed new spots on his brain and his liver. The oncology team is going to do everything they can, but told his son to alert the family. Staying alive is difficult.
Difficulties are part of our existence. What matters is how we decide to handle them. Do we give up or do we fight? Sure, everyone wants us to fight, but fighting is another thing that’s difficult. How long are we supposed to fight?
There are days when we want to give up. The toll being extracted from us is too much. We feel like we’ve handled all we are capable of handling.
The human spirit is an amazing thing, though. A kind word, encouragement from a friend, the love of a family member may be all it takes for us to keep fighting, keep facing the things that are difficult.
Even when we survive this treatment, there will still be more challenges. The difficulties never go completely away. But we are warriors. We take on the challenges as they come and don’t worry about those we can’t solve.
You’ve got this, my friend. I’ve got this. As tired and frustrated as well all sometimes get, this difficulty will soon be behind us.
This is your daily reminder to check our home page for all the distractions we have so that we’re not constantly focused on the challenges. Do you like black and white pictures? Light and Shadows could be just the book for you! And don’t forget, a new book is coming next week!
