If you feel as though the days are all blurring together, you’re not alone. The necessary repetition that comes with any kind of chemotherapy treatment leaves us questioning which day it is, what month we’re in, and sometimes even what year it is.
Repetition is part of the treatment every chemo patient faces. For the medicine to work effectively, it has to build up and maintain a certain level in our bodies. As our kidneys (hopefully) flush out the waste, we need more to maintain an effective level of medicine.
Such repetition leaves us with some fuzziness. We did the exact same thing yesterday, and the day before, and the day before that. So which day is it? Is there something else we’re supposed to do?
Take a deep breath. What matters is right now, this moment. Focus on this day, what’s happening in the present. People will forgive us if we forget something. Our only job is to take care of ourselves. That means taking care of today, not worrying about anything else.
We’re doing the best we can. Embrace each moment and move forward from there.
